Bottoms Up for Green Drinks

Here’s another opportunity to mix and mingle with green minded DC folks. May’s Green Drinks event will be held on Tuesday May 12 at Left Bank (2424 18th Street) from 6:30-9.

This month’s speaker is Steve Ma, President and GEO of Live Green, an organization that helps make living green in the DC area more affordable by providing discounts to local green business and services.

ZipCars, Tranquil Space Yoga, HoleCo Medi Spa, Sticky Fingers Bakery, and Flow Yoga are just a few of the businesses that have signed up as “Green Spots,” and offer all sorts of discounts to Live Green members. Little Devils from Sticky Fingers…here I come!

Event: EcoTuesday

On Tuesday January 27th at 6 pm, join other sustainable business leaders and entrepreneurs for EcoTuesday at Bar Tabaq. These monthly events, which take place all over the country, provide a great venue to network and learn about current environmental and green issues from an innovative speaker.

This month, the speaker is Julia Hamm, executive director of the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), a national membership organization that facilitates solutions for utility use and integration of solar electric power.

The Green Festival Arrives

Next weekend, November 8-9, the Green Festival returns to DC with 350 exhibits, green shopping, community networking, organic food and beer, live music and much more. The festival is a joint project of Global Exchange and Co-op America, and all exhibitors must meet the standards set by Co-op America.

There will be 125 speakers including Andy Shallal of Busboys & Poets, authors Marion Nestle and Barbara Ehrenreich, Honest Tea’s Seth Goldman, and Parin Shah (local policy director for Green Jobs for All). Festival attendees will be able to explore the latest in clean technology, green building, socially responsible investing, eco-fashion, renewable energy, green careers, natural foods, eco-tourism, and more.

Don’t forget to bring your yoga mat so you can participate in the 50-minute classes held over the two-day event, as well as free 10-minute one-on-one sessions with Boundless Yoga founder Kim Weeks and instructors from her studio.

October Green Events

Break out your datebook, because this month there are all sorts of green events that you won’t want to miss.

First up is Green Drinks on Tuesday Oct 14th at Indebleu (707 G Street, Gallery Place Metro stop) from 6:30 to 9:30. Stop by to mingle with other progressive green movers and shakers while getting your drink on. The green gang will be be downstairs in the Tantra Lounge.

Green Community opens at the National Building Museum on October 23. The exhibition explores the process of creating and sustaining healthy communities and how communities large and small are changing their global impact. This is the third in the NBM’s series of exhibitions that focus on sustainability in architecture, planning, and design.

On Tuesday October 28, EcoTuesday, which was originally founded in San Francisco, will come to DC. This monthly networking event brings together sustainable minded people from all areas of business. Along with mingling, there will be 2 for 1 drink specials and a speaker, John Friedman of the Sustainable Business Network. The event will be held from 6 to 8pm at Tabaq Lounge (near the U street/Cardozo Metro Station). RSVP here.

Green Events Galore

Mark your calendars, greenies. There are a bevy of events on tap for March that are not to be missed. First up is Green Drinks on Tuesday, March 11 at Lillies inside the Carlyle Suites Hotel. In addition to the usual schmoozin’, this month’s event will include a short talk about CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture) and the chance to sign up for a cooking class on seasonal eating with Inspire Nutrition. Oh, and there will be free apps so get there early.

On Sunday, March 9 @ 5 PM head to Busboys and Poets, 2021 14th Street, for a free screening of King Corn. You can catch another screening at the new Busboys & Poets in Arlington on Sunday, March 16 at 4 PM. Admission is free but you must RSVP to kingcorn@communitycinema-dc.org or 202-939-0794
